Name Service Error for Name=email.mundoc1.com Type=aaaa: Host Not Found

  1. Dear all,

After installing ISPConfig and using it for some fourth dimension at present, I get strange returned mail service. The error is from my Postfix installation, and says:

Host or domain proper noun not constitute. Proper name service error for name=a_certain_domain.nl blazon=AAAA: Host found but no data record of requested blazon

I already found information technology is a IPv6-matter, and it frequently happens when the receiving server is behind a router or something that doesn't actually comply to the Rules of Ripe. My mail service gets returned with this error when mailing companies (a few anyway).

I tin live with not beingness able to e-mail certain companies, only it's rather annoying.
Is there anything at all I tin do except hope everybody volition wisen up and start using proper DNS-servers?

    Thanks.

You tin create an AAAA record for a_certain_domain.nl on the authoritative name server for that domain.
  3. Howdy Falko,

Thank you for the reply (I acted on it, and added aaaa-records for my domains, trust me), but the error occurs for domains that are not under my control. I establish a config parameter in postfix where I can tell it to only utilise the IPv4 protocol, and that helps: now i get the error that a blazon A record for the domain can't be found. If I dig the domain, it promptly returns the A-tape. Meanwhile my mail still bounces for completely valid domains...

    Thanks, Farao

AAAA IPv6 address, code 28. Used for storing an IPv6 128-bit address associated with a domain name. Defined in RFC 3596.
Have you enabled IPv6 support? I know I have fully disabled it, but I guess you need to tell some utilities to use IPv6. With due east.g. bind/named you have to add together -six as a parameter during startup.
  5. I did disable ipv6, and have dug into resolv.conf, which showed me it but searched my own gateway... non good. I added a search lan and a couple of the nameservers my isp runs, and information technology seems that was what caused the problems.
I don't use the namewerver ispconfig installs, maybe that's part of the problem as well, just since my isp hase good servers, i thought, why bother running my own. maybe I should consider it though...

    Thanks for thinking with me,
    Farao

I of the reasons to run a local DNS server is the ability to do caching. Simply you need to modify the default settings, to forward at least to the upstream DNS servers, almost commonly the ones of your Isp.
  7. This is turning into a chip more a simple ipv6-problem: afterwards changing my resolv.conf, I no longer receive any postal service. Sending is fine, simply nothing comes back in. postal service.log shows connection timeouts on port 25, and a lot of tries from my domainhosters backup mailservers...
Can somebody testify me a proper resolv.conf, and tell me to Yeah or NO activate the dns-server on ispconfig?
  8. falko

    falko Super Moderator ISPConfig Programmer

    This is a valid /etc/resolv.conf:
    nameserver 145.253.2.75 nameserver 193.174.32.18
If y'all want to run your ain DNS servers, actuate information technology; if someone else (east.k. your registrar) manages your DNS records, don't activate it.
  9. Thanks Falko.
Mail bounces back to me with a Too Many Hops mistake. Tin y'all point me in the richt direction? My post.log shows me the attempts from my secondairy mailserver to deliver mails. It looks similar connections time out, merely I don't know how or why... my mail-errorlog shows a couple of logins from an ip on my internal network (probably during a reboot).
Naught out of the ordinary happened on this system...

    Edit---
The plot thickens. In my syslog I run across entries like:
    Feb 5 20:18:46 atlas postfix/qmgr[9333]: E766C1D426D: to=<[electronic mail protected]>, orig_to=<[e-mail protected]>, relay=none, delay=28365, status=deferred (delivery temporarily suspended: connect to server.com[IP_HERE]: Connection timed out)

All I changes where hosts and resolv.conf. THat was on feb three. Since and then information technology's been too quiet in my mailbox.

Can you post the real log message (without replacing IP addresses and hostnames)? What exactly did you lot modify?
  11. Sure, I'll postal service information technology when I get home. Too, a netstat -tap showed a LOT of services (inlcuding pop. impa etcetera) listening on tcp6. How that happened, I don't know. I'll post that output as well.

Almost the changes, I remember now I did a apt-upgrade that refreshed some libs, but naught like Demark or courier. I inverse hosts to include the machinename, and resolv.conf to first with an external dns-server instead of my routers IP. After that I sent an e-mail that reached its destination as planned, an d then nothing anymore.

    Netstat -tap:

look like valid domain names and should non be on a 10.x.x.x accost. Y'all should exit information technology to DNS to resolve those. I presume you lot want these domains to be reachable from the internet?

I checked the NAT-table on my router/gateway as well, only everything in that location is as it should exist. This is driving me mad! Checking the Maildir-directories on my webs, I meet some have inverse content dated today, while some have feb3 equally concluding change-date. This might hateful that some domains actually go mail.
    Firewall checks out
    Hosts checks out
    resolv.conf checks out
    dns entries are ok
    router is ok
    what am I missing here?

    --edit--
Turning off the firewall doesn't help either...

Are you on a server behind an ADSL line? Recently Planet Internet shutdown port 25 access in The Netherlands. Could exist either your ADSL provider or your upstream provider blocking? So external firewalls.
  18. Yeah, i am behind ADSL, from XS4All, and from the log entries I recall mail is reaching my server, it just doesn't go delivered. Somehow, it looks similar it passes straight to the backup-mailserver, which and then tries to connect to me. DNS shows no strange things, and my server is main mailserver for my domains...

    --edit--
Looks similar I'm dorsum to my original problem: nonetheless no mails in my inbox, but now it looks like a pure dns-result.

Here'due south what I did with apt-become over the past few days... I did upgrade Bind, simply that hasn't been what caused the problem (the bug began BEFORE the upgrade).

Please ask your ISP if they block port 25.
  20. They don't block ports, I checked with them, and from work, I can telnet to port 25 without bug.
What's so annoying is that local mail service (sent from the server to the server) is likewise not reaching its destination: mail service sent from one domain hosted on ispconfig to some other on the aforementioned automobile, only vanishes.
If yous want, I tin post chief.cf, master.cf, and all the other files, I even retraced the steps from the Ubuntu 6.06 perfect setup, and everything looks ok. Beingness relatively new to Linux, I thought maybe a reboot would do the play a joke on, just no...
